Annecy will bid for the 2018 Olympic Winter Games!
The town in the French Alps near the Swiss border offering a
lakeside setting was elected by the French Olympic Committee today
(march 18th 09) after an intensive evaluation process. It handily defeated rivals
by receiving 23 votes against 10 for Nice and 9 for Grenoble.
Pelvoux failed to earn a single vote.
The President of the French Olympic Committee, Sérandour Henry,
announced the result at 11:58am local time in Paris.
“The city of the lake” is designated as the
Applicant City to the IOC ... Annecy 2018, c'est parti!”
Annecy has been pursuing an Olympic bid
nomination for several years – first intending to bid for the 2010
Winter Games. However, France had been focusing on hosting a Summer
Games in Paris, most recently losing the 2012 bid to London. Now,
France is aiming for a Winter Games.
It's looking ever more likely that we could very well have skiing at
the Olympics in 2018 coming from Chinaillon or the Valley De
Bouchet!
As of
today, Annecy is certainly the French favourite.

page.
